Foreigners living in Slovakia can choose between public and commercial health insurance. We are the only company offering both types of health insurance in Slovakia.

Public or commercial health insurance,
which do you need?
You must enrol for public health insurance if:
- you have permanent residence in the territory of the Slovak Republic and you are not covered by public health insurance in another country by reason of employment, business activity or long-term residence
- you do not have permanent residence in the territory of the Slovak Republic but
- you are a foreigner* employed in Slovakia with an income equal to or greater than the minimum wage***, or
- you are foreigner* who is self-employed****, in the territory of the Slovak Republic,
- you are a child with at least one parent who has public health insurance in Slovakia,
- you are a foreign student studying at a school in the Slovak Republic under an international agreement,
- you are a pupil or student with the status of a Slovak living abroad studying at a school in the Slovak Republic.
- you are a professional athlete paid to take part in sport for a sports organisation,
- you have a child born in an EU country.
You should take out
commercial health insurance if:
- you are waiting to receive permanent or temporary residence,
- you are wating for a work permit,
- you have temporary residence for family reunification,
- you are a student from a country outside the European Union,
- you are in Slovakia as a tourist,
- you are applying for a visa.
Benefits of public health insurance from Union
For example, it will contribute 100 euros a year for your teeth, or we will refund the supplements for medicines and dietetic food for your child without a limit. We do our benefits for you, so that they are useful and fair.
